Artist Bio:  Delvin

I was born in 1978 and raised in rural Eastern Kansas. Early in my childhood my Father encouraged me to draw and use my imagination. Together we would draw monsters, make paper space ships and tell stories. He shared with me his love of nature, we would fish, hunt for lizards and explore. In 1988 he died in a vehicle accident. He was 37, and I was 9. Since then his life and death has had a tremendous impact on the way I view life.

In 2009 I received my Bachelors degree in the Fine Arts with a painting emphasis at Emporia State University. Currently I am working on my BSE in Art Education and I am expecting to graduate in May 2014.

I am motivated by nature, mythology, ancient cultures, mysticism, and philosophy. I am influenced by the surrealist works of Frida Kahlo, Salvatore Dali, Diego Rivera, and Max Ernst. In addition, I am moved by the colorful work of Paul Gaugin and the spiritual experiences that are expressed in his paintings.

The spiritual journey that one takes up in a quest for knowledge and understanding is an ancient one that has been practiced by individuals of different cultures for many ages. These mysteries are hidden waiting only to be revealed. "Seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened unto you." Matthew 7:7
